Cyprus' Busiest Road Sees 90,000 Vehicles Daily

The Reopening of Schools and Activities Intensifies Traffic Issues Across Cyprus, With Limassol Seeing the Most Significant Congestion

With the reopening of schools, tutoring centers, and children's afternoon activities, traffic problems have resurfaced across Cyprus.

Although the capital previously held the title for the most congested roads, recent measures by the Ministry of Transport to alleviate traffic in Nicosia have shown some results.

"The problem hasn't been solved, and congestion continues in Nicosia, but I believe the situation in Limassol is worse," said Minister of Transport Alexis Vafeades.

Data from the Public Works Department, cited by the Traffic Police, ranks the Limassol bypass as the busiest road in Cyprus.

According to George Milis, Head of Road Safety at the Traffic Police Headquarters, the highway from Germasogeia to Limassol General Hospital—on both sides—carries 90,000 vehicles every 24 hours.

It is worth noting that the busiest road in Nicosia, according to the same source, is the urban motorway from Spyros Kyprianou Avenue towards Troodos. Daily traffic on this road, in both directions, reaches 48,000 vehicles, based on measurements taken in May 2024.
