The Remote-Controlled Table That Brings Food to You

Meet the Carpentopod, a Unique Blend of Robotics and Design

Have you ever sat on the couch after a tiring day, only to realize you left your drink and food on the table? Instead of having to get up to retrieve them, what if the table could come to you? This dream has become a reality thanks to a specialist in the Netherlands who has created a 12-legged table that moves via remote control.

Like a cross between Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels and Theo Jansen's Strandbeest sculptures, the Carpentopod features two motors that power its legs. In a recently released video, the table approaches the user with a full open bottle of beer on top, without spilling a drop.

The Carpentopod was built by Giliam de Carpentier, a programmer and carpenter in Amsterdam, who detailed his creation in a post. He stated that the Carpentopod is "relatively practical and aesthetically pleasing to have" in the home, further describing it as "a fusion of the robotic with the organic." Its name is a combination of the Latin "Carpentum" (wagon) and "pod," derived from the Greek word for "feet."
