CY in Numbers: Vehicle Registrations Down, Services Up, Beer Exports Fall

Vehicle registrations in Cyprus fell during the first half of 2025, according to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
Specifically, total motor vehicle registrations stood at 25,954, marking a 1.1% decrease compared to 26,250 in the same period of 2024.
Despite the overall decline, June showed signs of recovery, with registrations increasing by 13.1% to 4,942, up from 4,369 in June 2024. Registrations of passenger saloon cars rose 9.7%, reaching 3,780.
During January–June 2025, passenger saloon car registrations dropped by 3.0%, totaling 20,004 compared to 20,623 in the same period last year. Of these, 8,221 (41.1%) were new and 11,783 (58.9%) used. Rental vehicle registrations saw a notable 22.8% increase, reaching 2,820.
By fuel type, the share of petrol vehicles declined to 43.6% (from 49.5%) and diesel vehicles to 8.6% (from 10.0%). In contrast, electric vehicles rose to 4.8% (from 3.3%), and hybrids increased significantly to 43.0% (from 37.2%).
Bus registrations fell to 78 (from 87), while Freight vehicle registrations rose by 2.7%, totaling 3,055.
According to the Statistical Service’s 2023 Survey on Services and Transport, all areas of the service sector recorded growth in production and value added compared to 2022.

Accommodation & food services: Production up 20.5%, value added up 24.3% (€1.74 billion).

Information & communication technologies: Production up 17.4%, value added up 18.6% (€3.28 billion).

Transport & storage: Production increased 6.7%, value added 15.8% (€1.10 billion).

Real estate activities: Production grew 16.3%, value added 15.6% (€213 million).

Significant rises were also seen in professional services, education, health, arts, and entertainment.
Employment also rose in all service sectors in 2023, with notable figures in:

Information & communication: 26,258 employees.

Transport & storage: 22,482 employees.

Administrative support services: 19,939 employees.
Cyprus beer exports fell 24.2% year-on-year in June 2025, reaching 245,087 litres, down from 323,278 litres in June 2024.
However, domestic deliveries grew by 1.5%, totaling 4,601,840 litres. Overall beer deliveries slightly decreased by 0.2% to 4,846,927 litres, compared to June 2024.
