CYEmployers National Survey: Aligning Education with Industry Needs

Enhancing Workforce Skills For Cyprus's Future Economy

The main objective of the research is to explore the current and future needs of the labor market in skills.

According to a relevant announcement, the main goal of the research is to investigate the existing and future needs of the labor market in skills, with the ultimate aim of better aligning Cyprus's Higher Education with the labor market. It is also noted that understanding the skill requirements of the workforce is crucial for aligning the capabilities of the labor force with the demands of the labor market.

The CYEmployers National Employers Survey is conducted as part of the work of the Directorate of Higher Education under the title: "Development of a National Graduates Monitoring Mechanism and Design and Implementation of National Employers Survey," which is being implemented as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Cyprus.

The project's implementation has been undertaken by PwC Cyprus following a relevant tender announcement on the eProcurement electronic system and is supervised by the Directorate of Higher Education.

The CYEmployers National Employers Survey is conducted for the first time in Cyprus and targets employers from the private sector, as well as managerial staff from the public and wider public sectors. Specifically, a random sample of private sector businesses has been selected from the Business Register of the Statistical Service, while all managerial staff from the public and wider public sectors have been invited to participate.

During the current period, data collection for the first cycle of the CYEmployers survey is taking place through an electronic questionnaire. Access to the questionnaire is provided via the link https://skilltracking.highereducation.ac.cy/cyemployers/. Completion of the questionnaire requires an access code, which has been sent to the businesses and managerial staff from the public and wider public sectors participating in the sample.

As stated, participation in the CYEmployers National Employers Survey conducted by the Directorate of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Youth will enable employers to have a "significant role in improving the training of Cyprus's future workforce." The results of this survey will contribute to aligning Higher Education with the needs of the labor market, as well as reducing the time and resources spent on training new personnel.

The results of the CYEmployers National Employers Survey will serve as a basis for decision-making and policy development to enhance Higher Education in Cyprus, revise the Detailed Curricula of Secondary Education, and develop and offer skills enhancement and retraining programs for the workforce.

Furthermore, participation in the CYEmployers National Employers Survey and access to its results will provide businesses/employers with reliable information about broader trends in the labor market. This information can be utilized to shape the strategic planning of businesses/services, to design strategies for attracting talent, and to formulate strategies for recruitment and personnel development purposes.

Moreover, it is expected to contribute to fostering closer collaboration among businesses/employers, Higher Education Institutions, and relevant Ministries/Agencies to develop policies aimed at implementing actions that will enhance the competitiveness of the economy.

For the above reasons, all employers are called upon to participate actively and contribute significantly to the appropriate education and training of the country's future workforce, concludes the announcement.

The Directorate of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Youth proceeded with the design and implementation of the CYEmployers National Employers Survey, inviting employers to actively participate, thereby contributing significantly to the appropriate education and training of the country's future workforce.
