Cyprus Consumer Association Evaluates e-Kalathi Prices

Analysis of 267 common products across five major supermarkets highlights significant price differences and questionable promotional offers.

The Cyprus Consumer Association has released its evaluation of prices listed on the e-Kalathi platform, sharing key findings from its latest monitoring.

In a statement today, the association reminded that e-Kalathi became publicly available on June 12, 2025. The assessment covers data recorded from July 29 to August 3, 2025.

From the 478 product codes included on the platform, 267 common items were identified across five major supermarkets: Sklavenitis, Athienitis, Ioannides, Metro, and Alpha Mega. These supermarkets have the largest selection of shared products compared to others.

A price comparison conducted on July 29, 2025, for these 267 items revealed the following total costs:

  • Sklavenitis: €926.52

  • Athienitis: €979.49

  • Ioannides: €1,025.85

  • Metro: €1,047.76

  • Alpha Mega: €1,049.87

The association noted that prices in the same supermarket chains remained consistent across districts where they operate multiple locations.

By August 3, 2025, Alpha Mega had 89 items on promotion, Athienitis 16, and Sklavenitis only 2.

However, the analysis revealed a surprising detail: Of Alpha Mega’s 89 promotional items, 78 were higher than Sklavenitis’ regular prices, and 60 were higher than Athienitis’ standard prices.

The Cyprus Consumer Association emphasized that these conclusions are based solely on e-Kalathi price data. It pledged to continue monitoring pricing trends and to transparently publish its findings based on systematic evaluations.
