Cyprus-Flagged Cargo Ship Runs Aground Off Tuscany

Authorities are assessing potential damage and planning its safe removal.

The Cyprus-flagged cargo ship Guang Rong, measuring 103 meters in length, ran aground on the coast of Tuscany, near Marina di Massa, after being displaced by severe weather conditions.

The vessel had been anchored, but strong waves and heavy winds pushed it toward the shore, causing its stern to collide with the dock at Marina di Massa.

The local port authority swiftly responded by deploying a helicopter to the scene. The ship’s 12-member crew, consisting mostly of Ukrainian nationals, was safely evacuated to shore.

Authorities have initiated inspections to determine whether the Guang Rong sustained any hull breaches, as the vessel has tilted significantly to the left.

Officials continue to monitor the situation, and no fuel leaks have been detected in the surrounding waters so far.

In the coming days, authorities must decide on the best course of action to move the vessel to a safe location.
