Cyprus Hospitality Sees 80% Visitor Rates in Autumn, Eyes Extended Tourism Season

Restaurant and recreation centre owners express satisfaction but stress the importance of winter support measures.

The President of the Cyprus Federation of Recreation Centre Owners, Neophytos Thrasyvoulou, expressed his satisfaction with the high visitor numbers recorded in September and October. According to Mr. Thrasyvoulou, recreational and hospitality venues across Cyprus achieved occupancy rates exceeding 80% during the first two months of autumn.

In statements to the Cyprus News Agency, Mr. Thrasyvoulou said that the past two months have been “very good,” adding that restaurant and entertainment business owners across the island are generally pleased with the results.

Mr. Thrasyvoulou expressed hope that this level of visitor activity will continue at least until mid-November. “What we are seeking right now,” he said, “is new support schemes from the Ministry of Labour, so that employees can remain in their jobs and continue receiving subsidies.”

He also stressed the need for such measures to help as many businesses as possible remain open during the winter period.

The Federation President highlighted that extending the tourism season has long been a key goal for Cyprus’s food and hospitality industry, as it contributes significantly to the stabilization and sustainability of businesses.

When asked about the current status of recreation centres, Mr. Thrasyvoulou noted that while all venues are currently open, many are expected to close soon. “The hospitality sector is waiting for the first half of November to make its final decisions,” he said.

He further mentioned that the industry is waiting for the House of Representatives to move forward with a pending bill designed to simplify licensing procedures. Once passed, the legislation will allow business owners to secure and maintain their operating licenses for longer periods and to adjust their working hours according to operational needs, helping businesses stay viable in the competitive tourism market.
