Cyprus' Potential as a Business Hub Highlighted in Tokyo Event
During the Forum, Cypriot Technological and Maritime Companies Participated in Technology and Shipping Panels
During the Cyprus-Japan Business Forum, organized in Tokyo by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, along with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Republic’s Trade Centre in Tokyo, Cyprus’ Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, George Papanastasiou, presented Cyprus as an attractive international business destination. As the main speaker and leader of a business delegation from Cyprus, he highlighted the island’s competitive advantages.
According to the announcement, Papanastasiou spoke of Cyprus' new strategy to attract international businesses and specialized personnel. He also mentioned the Company Facilitation Unit within the Ministry, which serves as a contact point for businesses looking to operate or expand on the island. He emphasized the excellent opportunities in Cyprus for developing activities and strengthening partnerships with Japan, especially in certain sectors.
The Chief Scientist of the Republic of Cyprus for Research, Innovation, and Technology, Dimitris Skourides, outlined the technology strategy and the maturity of the research and innovation ecosystem, showcasing Cyprus as a destination for technology and innovation. He also emphasized the importance of upgrading technological infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, encouraging Japanese businesses to leverage Cyprus as a gateway to Europe. Additionally, an official from the Deputy Ministry of Shipping showcased Cyprus as a leading ship registry and international maritime center.
During the Forum, Cypriot technological and maritime companies participated in technology and shipping panels, showcasing their technological solutions in biotechnology, space, and maritime security. They highlighted Cyprus' expertise and specialization in ship management and its ability to offer technologically advanced solutions, penetrating the single market.
Furthermore, Papanastasiou, responding to a question from the technology panel, presented the Ministry’s strategy for energy, with specific references to natural gas findings in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus and the electrical interconnection between Israel, Cyprus, and Crete, the announcement concluded.
