Cyprus Retail Sales Up in April, Driven by Food and Online Shopping

Retail Turnover Index Rises 5.5% in Value and 6.3% in Volume, Led by Specialty Food Stores and E-commerce

Retail trade in Cyprus showed robust growth in April 2025, with both value and volume increasing compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service.

The Retail Turnover Value Index (excluding motor vehicles) rose by 5.5%, while the Retail Turnover Volume Index recorded a 6.3% increase year-on-year.

The most notable increases in retail value were recorded in:

  • Specialty food, beverage, and tobacco stores: up 17.7%

  • Non-store retailing (primarily online): up 14.8%

  • Florists, second-hand shops, jewelry, optics, and similar: up 14.4%

  • Grocery and convenience stores: up 10.6%

In contrast, declines were observed in:

  • Fuel sales: down 7.3%

  • Household goods (e.g., building materials, carpets, furniture, electronics, lighting): down 3.3%

  • Educational and recreational items (books, stationery, sports equipment, toys): down 0.6%

On the volume side, the highest increases were noted in:

  • Non-store retailing: up 16.3%

  • Florists, second-hand goods, jewelry, optics: up 12.7%

  • Clothing and footwear: up 12.2%

  • Specialty food, beverage, and tobacco stores: up 10.8%

Volume declined for:

  • Household goods: down 3.1%

  • Educational and recreational items: down 0.5%
