Cyprus Shipping Chamber Joins Global Leaders At Hong Kong Maritime Summit

Focusing On Sustainability, Innovation, And Global Trade Challenges

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) took part in the high-level International Shipping Summit in Hong Kong, organized by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Government’s Transport Department and the Hong Kong Shipowners Association. The event was held ahead of the official opening of Hong Kong Maritime Week, scheduled for November 17–23, 2024.

A statement from the Chamber highlighted that the Summit brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, and policymakers for an engaging dialogue on the future of maritime trade. Discussions focused on the evolving dynamics of the global supply chain, the impact of geopolitical tensions, and the role of sustainability and innovation in ensuring a resilient maritime industry, marking the start of Hong Kong Maritime Week.

The Chamber’s Director General, Thomas Kazakos, along with CEOs from Member Companies, represented the Cypriot shipping industry at the event following an official invitation from the ICS, of which the Chamber has been a member for over 30 years.

Cyprus was also represented at a national level by the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanoli, who participated in a high-level roundtable discussion organized by the ICS. During this dialogue, Mrs. Hadjimanoli engaged with her counterparts from leading maritime nations, exchanging views and exploring solutions to address challenges and bolster global trade.

The active participation of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber in the Summit underscores Cyprus’s significant role in shaping the future of maritime trade. It further strengthens its strategic position on the global shipping stage, addressing international challenges and fostering global strategic collaboration, the statement concluded.
