ENI Denies Withdrawal from Cyprus Gas Drilling Activities

Italian Energy Giant Refutes Reports of Divestment in Cyprus EEZ

A spokesperson for Italian energy company ENI denied in a statement to the Cyprus News Agency that the company is considering withdrawing from its activities in Cyprus' exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Bloomberg, citing an unnamed source, had reported that the Italian company is considering divesting from assets related to gas drilling activities worth a total of $4 billion, with potential targets being operations in Indonesia and Cyprus.

"ENI denies being engaged in any discussion for the sale of shares in its assets held in Cyprus," a spokesperson told CNA when asked by email to comment on Bloomberg's report.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, also denied these reports yesterday. "We have spoken with ENI, and there is absolutely no intention to change our activities in the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus," he said.
