Minister of Energy Attends Economist Business Summit in New York

George Papanastasiou to Discuss Business and Energy Security in the Eastern Mediterranean

The Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry of Cyprus, George Papanastasiou, is in New York to participate in the 5th Economist New York-Eastern Mediterranean Business Summit, taking place today. While there, he will also hold several meetings, including with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Geoffrey Pyatt.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Papanastasiou will give interviews to major U.S. media outlets, such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes.

Mr. Papanastasiou's engagements began yesterday, Thursday, with meetings with the leaders of the Cyprus-American Chamber of Commerce and the Cyprus Federation of America.

Today, the Minister will join two panels at the Economist Business Summit. The first will focus on business opportunities in Cyprus and Greece ("A promising narrative for prosperity and growth through business ventures"). Mr. Papanastasiou will discuss Cyprus's competitive advantages as an international business center and the investment opportunities in specific sectors. Greek Minister of Development Konstantinos Skrekas will also participate in the discussion.

The second panel will address energy security and supply in critical times ("Energy security and supply in critical times"). This panel will feature Mr. Pyatt, Mr. Skrekas, and Osama Mobarez, Secretary-General of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum. In his opening remarks, Mr. Papanastasiou will present Cyprus's energy strategy and the country's initiatives to create the East Mediterranean Energy Corridor to Europe.

Additionally, Mr. Papanastasiou is scheduled to have one-on-one meetings with Mr. Pyatt and Ted Deutch, Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee (AJC).

Mr. Papanastasiou is set to leave New York tomorrow, Saturday, April 27.
