NEET Youth Rate in Cyprus Drops to 13.8%
Government Aims for Full Employment by 2025 Through Targeted Programs
The percentage of young people in Cyprus who are neither employed, enrolled in education, nor receiving training (NEETs) has decreased to 13.8%, according to results from the first year of the Employment Advisory Unit for NEETs project. Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Yiannis Panayiotou emphasized that achieving full employment remains a key government goal, with expectations that this will be realized by 2025.
At a press conference presenting the project’s results, Minister Panayiotou highlighted the progress made since its launch in January 2024. To date, 400 young people who were previously outside the workforce, education, or training have been identified and supported. In total, 717 meetings have been conducted to provide tailored employment guidance.
Cyprus has gradually reduced its NEET rate in recent years, reaching 13.8% in 2023. However, officials noted that this figure remains above the European Union average, underscoring the need for continued efforts.
