Growing Interest in Offshore Renewable Energy Sparks Momentum in Cyprus
Cyprus Seeks Role in Offshore Renewable Energy Parks Expansion
Interest in the creation of offshore renewable energy parks is steadily increasing, and Cyprus is no exception. As an island, Cyprus has the advantage of utilizing its maritime space for such developments.
The latest advancements and the development of new technologies for offshore renewable energy parks are boosting these efforts. On one hand, the reduction in construction costs and, on the other, the increased efficiency of these technologies now make their creation more feasible.
According to Brief, although the matter is still in its early stages, several business entities have already requested permits to establish the first floating renewable energy facilities in Cypriot waters.
This issue is of particular importance to Europe, which is actively promoting the use of renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, countries like Cyprus can take advantage of their maritime spaces, preserving their land for other uses.
In fact, the topic will be on the agenda of today's (September 23) MED9 Summit in Cyprus, where European energy ministers are expected to discuss the need for a policy framework for offshore renewable energy. This framework would encompass wind turbines, floating solar panels, and wave energy.
