Conference on Marine Research and the Blue Economy to Take Place in Ayia Napa in May
The Conference Is Being Held in the Framework of Cyprus’ Presidency of the EU and Focuses on the Sustainable Development of the Oceans.
The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), in collaboration with the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, are co-organising a conference titled “From Marine Science to Policy Making and from Ocean Research & Development to the Market”, as part of Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to an announcement by the Institute, the conference will take place on May 11–12, 2026, in Ayia Napa and is expected to bring together prominent stakeholders from the ecosystems of research, policymaking and innovation.
The goal is to strengthen constructive dialogue, create meaningful networking opportunities and facilitate the exchange of knowledge, in an effort to promote interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, decision-makers, industry representatives, civil society organisations and environmental groups.
The conference aims to serve as a dynamic platform for translating cutting-edge marine scientific and technological research into evidence-based policies and innovative solutions with commercialisation potential.
At the same time, it seeks to contribute to addressing modern challenges related to oceans and seas, while supporting the development of a competitive and sustainable blue economy fully aligned with the principles of environmental protection.
According to the announcement, the conference programme will include panel discussions, plenary sessions, interactive workshops, thematic exhibitions and live technology demonstrations organized across thematic sections.
The objective is to accelerate the development and commercialisation of innovative solutions in the field of the blue economy.
The two-day event highlights Cyprus’ commitment to the protection and sustainable management of marine resources, while also reflecting the country’s strategic support for the implementation of the European Ocean Pact. At the same time, it contributes to collective European efforts to protect the oceans, strengthen the blue economy and enhance the resilience and prosperity of coastal communities.
