Cyprus State Write-offs Drop by 50%

Treasury: Debt Write-offs Amounted to €1.05 Million for 2025

Total Amount of Uncollectible Debt Reduced by 50% Compared to 2024

The total amount of write-offs for uncollectible debts, public funds, and state assets and its special funds amounted to €1,050,388.77 in 2025, according to data released by the Treasury of the Republic.

As stated in the announcement, an amount of €1,033,955.72 concerns write-offs exceeding one thousand euros per case, while €16,433.05 relates to write-offs below one thousand euros. The corresponding total write-off amount for 2024 stood at €2,170,293.30.

The Treasury notes that these write-offs are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Accounting and Financial Management and Financial Control of the Republic Law.

According to the announcement, writing off overdue debts and revenues that have proven to be uncollectible helps support public decision-makers more effectively. This process allows collection efforts to focus on debts with a higher probability of recovery.

At the same time, it is highlighted that the write-off procedure enhances the reliability and representative depiction of overdue revenues and assets in the state's financial statements.

Write-offs exceeding one thousand euros per case have been published on the official website of the Treasury of the Republic.
