Cyprus Trade Deficit Soars Past €5.8 Billion
Imports continue to outpace exports as Cyprus’ trade gap widens sharply in 2025.
The trade deficit of Cyprus increased on an annual basis during the period January–September 2025. According to the Statistical Service, the trade deficit reached €5,884.2 million for the first nine months of 2025, compared to €4,787.0 million in the same period of 2024.
During January–September 2025, total imports of goods reached €10,111.1 million, up from €8,768.0 million in the same period of 2024 — an increase of 15.3%.
Total exports for the same period rose to €4,226.9 million from €3,981.0 million in 2024, recording a 6.2% increase.
As a result, Cyprus’ trade deficit widened to €5,884.2 million for January–September 2025, compared with €4,787.0 million in the same period of 2024.
Total imports of goods in September 2025 amounted to €1,208.0 million, compared to €986.3 million in September 2024 — marking an increase of 22.5%.
Imports from other EU Member States were valued at €612.5 million, while imports from third countries reached €595.5 million, compared with €633.6 million and €352.7 million respectively in September 2024.
September 2025 imports included economic ownership transfers of ships worth €35.6 million, compared with €30.4 million in September 2024.
Total exports of goods in September 2025 were €497.4 million, compared to €354.1 million in September 2024, showing a strong increase of 40.5%.
Exports to EU Member States stood at €173.6 million, and exports to third countries at €323.8 million, compared with €113.3 million and €240.8 million respectively in September 2024.
September 2025 exports also included economic ownership transfers of ships amounting to €108.0 million, versus €42.2 million a year earlier.

Total imports of goods reached €1,116.7 million in August 2025, compared to €981.8 million in August 2024 — an increase of 13.7%.
Exports of domestically produced goods, including ship and aircraft stores and provisions, amounted to €399.1 million in August 2025, compared to €193.9 million in August 2024 — a substantial 105.8% increase.
The value of domestic exports of industrial products (excluding ship and aircraft provisions) was €392.6 million in August 2025, compared with €186.4 million a year earlier.
Meanwhile, domestic exports of agricultural products (excluding ship and aircraft provisions) totalled €5.8 million, compared to €6.8 million in August 2024.
Exports of foreign goods, including ship and aircraft supplies, reached €132.4 million in August 2025, compared to €96.9 million in August 2024 — an increase of 36.6%.
