Employment in Government Reaches 55,331 in February, Marginal Increase of 0.1%
Employment in the Public Service Decreased by 0.9%, Reaching 22,977.
Total employment in the Government reached 55,331 people in February, recording a small increase of 35 people or 0.1% compared to the same month in 2025, according to data on public sector employment released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
Employment in the Public Service decreased by 0.9%, reaching 22,977 people from 23,197 in February 2025. A decrease of 0.5% was also recorded in the Security Forces, where personnel reached 13,772 people. In contrast, employment in the Educational Service increased by 1.8%, with the number of employees reaching 18,582.
Across personnel categories within the Government, the largest increase was recorded among Employees of Indefinite Duration, who rose by 1.6% on an annual basis to reach 9,626 people. In contrast, Employees of Fixed-Term Duration recorded the largest decrease, falling by 0.9% to 6,283 people.
Within individual services, the largest percentage increase was recorded among Employees of Indefinite Duration in the Educational Service, who increased by 25.2% to reach 1,184 people. The largest percentage decrease was recorded among Employees of Fixed-Term Duration in the Security Forces, who declined by 85.4%, falling to 39 people from 268 in February 2025.
As noted, this significant decrease is mainly due to the completion and non-extension of specific fixed-term contracts in July 2025.
For the period January–February 2026, the average total employment in the Government increased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2025.
