Global Seat: Cyprus Secures Leading Role in UN Social Justice Steering Group
Labour Minister Discusses Reform and Modernization Efforts With Ilo Official
Cyprus is expanding its footprint on the global labour stage. During high-level UN talks in Geneva, Labour Minister Marinos Moushouttas solidified the island's new leadership position within the International Labour Organization's Global Coalition for Social Justice while pushing forward critical domestic pension reforms.
Cyprus’ influence within the International Labour Organization (ILO) is set to expand significantly. Meeting at the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Labour Minister Marinos Moushouttas and ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo confirmed that Cyprus will join the elite Steering Group leading the Global Coalition for Social Justice for its upcoming term.
The high-level bilateral meeting focused heavily on structural evolution. The two officials discussed the ongoing modernization of the ILO framework within the wider United Nations system, alongside critical technical cooperation aimed at reinforcing the long-term sustainability and reform of Cyprus' national pension system.
Director-General Houngbo expressed his strong appreciation for Cyprus' proactive implementation of policies that champion social justice. Looking ahead to continued collaboration, Minister Moushouttas thanked the ILO for its historical support particularly during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU and extended an official invitation for Houngbo to visit Cyprus this coming autumn.
