Cyprus Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou heads to Luxembourg to preside over an EU Council session set to adopt historic conclusions on affordable housing, tackling regional demographic and economic pressures.

A Milestone for European Housing Policy

Cyprus Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou is travelling to Luxembourg to preside over the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) for housing issues, taking place within the framework of the Cyprus EU Presidency. A press release says that EU Ministers are expected to adopt the first Council Conclusions on affordable housing, marking an important milestone for European cooperation in this area.

Adapting to Demographic and Economic Shifts

According to the press release, the Conclusions focus on the need to formulate housing policies that respond to demographic, social and economic changes, with respect for the principle of subsidiarity. The Conclusions underline the need to further strengthen cooperation between EU countries in the exchange of knowledge and best practices, the press release further reads.

Securing Access for Students and Middle-Income Households

The Council will also hold a policy debate on housing security for students and middle-income households. Ministers will exchange views on common challenges faced by EU member states and examine policy approaches that can contribute to enhancing access to quality, safe and affordable housing.
