The issuance of the student loan installments for the new academic year 2026/2027 begins on August 1, 2026, the Acting Director of the Central Agency for Equal Distribution of Burdens (KFIKB), Giorgos Sofokleous, told CNA, calling on beneficiaries to apply to the Housing Finance Corporation (OHS) to withdraw the amount. At the same time, he noted that the submission of applications for the new academic year continues.
Concurrently, regarding the number of applications for the first half of 2026, Mr. Sofokleous said that 317 applications for studies have been received, compared to 416 during the same period in 2025.
Regarding applications for housing loan interest rate subsidies, he stated that for the first half of 2026, 506 applications have been received, compared to 559 applications during the same period in 2025. Furthermore, he mentioned that for all application purposes during the first half of 2026, 969 applications have been received, compared to 1,031 during the same period in 2025.
The Acting Director of the Agency urged beneficiaries whose applications for a student loan "have already been examined and approved" by the Central Agency to apply from August 3, 2026 (since August 1 is a Saturday) to the OHS branches of their district in order to withdraw the amount allocated to them for the said academic year.
He added that for this purpose, they must present or send their registration for 2026/2027 to the OHS, while for those who have not registered yet and the current academic year is neither their first year of study nor their last, they can present the exam results of the year that ended to withdraw the new installment of their loan and, as soon as they secure the registration, present that as well.
He also stated that for first-year students, the offer of a place is accepted, while for those for whom 2026/2027 is the last year of studies, the beneficiary will be able to receive 50% of the corresponding installment by presenting the results of the previous year until they present their registration to receive the remaining 50%.
Applications for the New Academic Year Continue
At this point, Mr. Sofokleous said that the submission of applications for the new academic year 2026/2027 continues and the deadline for this year is January 31, 2027.
"Applications can also be submitted by those who are already studying, even if the current year does not concern their first year of study, to cover the remainder of their studies with a loan from the Central Agency," he noted.
He added that eligible to submit an application to the KFIKB are those who are owners of occupied property, either themselves, their parents, or grandmothers/grandfathers, and even their uncles/aunts.
He stated that the amounts granted for studies, always depending on the value of the beneficiary's occupied property, can cover annually the tuition fees where they exist and maintenance expenses depending on the country of study.
Specifically, referring to the amounts, Mr. Sofokleous said that €11,000 concerns studies in the USA and Canada, €10,000 for studies in the United Kingdom, France, and Italy, €8,000 for studies in Greece and other countries not mentioned by name, €1,700 for studies at Military Academies in Greece, €5,000 for studies in Cyprus (study area different from the area of residence), and €2,500 for studies in Cyprus (study area the same as the area of residence).
Support Plan Regulations at MoF, Regulations for "KtiZo" Being Prepared
Furthermore, Mr. Sofokleous told CNA that the Ministry of Finance has assigned the Central Agency with the preparation of Regulations for the Special Plan for Financial Support of Owners of Occupied or Inaccessible Properties from the utilization of the 0.4% fee paid in the case of a transfer by virtue of a sale of immovable property and/or company shares, which is not listed on any recognized Stock Exchange and which directly or indirectly is the owner of immovable property, as well as any other revenues that may arise.
He added that the draft Regulations have been sent to the Ministry of Finance and are undergoing processing.
Also, he mentioned that the Central Agency has been assigned the creation of Regulations for the Special Plan for the Lending Purposes of Potential Beneficiaries of the "KtiZo" Plan for the provision of loans by the Central Agency to eligible persons with the aim of securing the amount they need to cover their contribution for the reconstruction of residential units. "The said Regulations are in the final stage of processing so that they can be sent to the Ministry of Finance for further action," he concluded.
