Cyprus University of Technology Makes QS World University Rankings Debut

CUT enters the QS World University Rankings for the first time, ranking among the top 8% of 8,467 global institutions evaluated.

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) has, for the first time, been included in the internationally recognized QS World University Rankings, securing the 686th position globally.

In an official announcement, CUT states that it ranks among the top 8% of the 8,467 universities evaluated overall, as well as among the top 46% of those that made it into the final ranking list.

Only 1,501 universities—just 18% of all institutions assessed—managed to be included in the QS World University Rankings.

The QS World University Rankings is considered one of the top three global university rankings, alongside the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking).

The announcement emphasizes that, “As a small institution with fewer than 5,000 students, CUT not only met the general eligibility criteria required for all universities, but also fulfilled the specific criteria applied to small universities. This highlights the scale and significance of this achievement.” It further notes that “CUT is the only small university in both Cyprus and Greece to be included in the list.”

University rankings are based on several indicators, including graduate employability, learning experience, international outlook (in terms of both students and faculty), employer reputation, academic reputation, sustainability, participation in international research networks, and the impact of academic research.

“This major recognition strengthens CUT’s position on the global academic map and serves as tangible confirmation of its strategic focus on research, learning experience, internationalization, and sustainable development,” the announcement concludes.
