Thousands Attend European Researchers’ Night 2025 in Cyprus
Science, Innovation and Technology Celebration Attracts Students and Families in Nicosia
Thousands of visitors flocked to the State Fair in Nicosia on Friday for the European Researchers’ Night, Cyprus’ leading celebration of science, technology, and innovation.
According to the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), the event—organized for the 19th consecutive year—once again brought the public closer to the fascinating world of research and innovation. It attracted audiences of all ages and was held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. Hundreds of researchers, entrepreneurs, universities, research organizations, and innovative companies took part.
From 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., visitors explored more than 70 interactive booths, watched live experiments, and enjoyed science-themed entertainment. A highlight of this year’s event was the introduction of holograms of historic scientists, who “came to life” and answered audience questions in real time.
More than 3,000 students visited the exhibition, gaining first-hand experience of science and technology through interactive learning.
As part of the program, the annual Design Thinking Challenge and Science Unfold competitions showcased the most creative ideas of the younger generation, with awards presented to the winners.
The prize for best booth was awarded to “Mito Rangers: Cellular Heroes in Action” by the Biobank Cy Centre of Excellence.
The award ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nikodemos Damianou; the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology and RIF Board President, Demetris Skourides; and RIF Director General, Theodoros Loukaidis. Prizes were also presented by the RIF Vice President, the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Defence, and a representative of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus.
The evening concluded with Stand-up Science show “Science Rap Battle” by SCIENCE REACTORS, blending knowledge with humor for an inspiring finale.
The European Researchers’ Night takes place simultaneously in more than 460 cities across Europe and is an initiative of the European Commission to showcase the impact of science on daily life in creative and engaging ways.
