University of Cyprus and Wargaming Sign Cooperation Agreement

Partnership Aims to Enhance Collaboration in Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science

To strengthen their collaboration, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Cyprus and Wargaming Group Limited signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Friday, June 28, 2024. Representing the University of Cyprus, the Memorandum was signed by Professor Constantinos Fokianos, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and on behalf of Wargaming, by Mr. Valentinos Polykarpou, General Manager of Wargaming Group Ltd.

The Memorandum outlines a framework for collaboration between the University of Cyprus and Wargaming in the fields of Pure and Applied Mathematics, Probability, Statistics, Data Science, and the participation of Wargaming Cyprus in the Industrial Partners Program of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The broader goal of the Memorandum is for the parties to share expertise and advanced technology to strengthen their strategic role in the constantly evolving information technology industry.

The Memorandum of Cooperation envisions further collaboration at various levels, including student internships, student projects on mutual interests, participation in research programs, joint knowledge transfer activities, and the development and delivery of elective courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

In his statements, Professor Constantinos Fokianos, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Cyprus, said, "Developing effective strategic collaborations within our field in research and applied experience allows us to expand into new areas to address much larger questions. Therefore, it is crucial to reflect on and learn from our collective experiences to ensure we have the necessary capabilities and resources to remain competitive in the ever-evolving fields of Mathematics and Statistics."

On his part, Valentinos Polykarpou, General Manager of Wargaming Group Ltd, noted, "This collaboration confirms our commitment to nurturing talent across various educational fields and developing strong ties between academia and industry. Through this partnership, we aim to support students in their research activities and offer them unique opportunities for growth and development.
