University of Cyprus Ranks Among the Top 500 Universities Globally
New International Ranking Highlights UCY’s Rise in Global Higher Education.
The University of Cyprus is ranked among the top 401-500 universities worldwide according to the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, and once again holds the top position among Cypriot universities, marking an improvement from last year when it was ranked among the top 501-600.
According to an announcement, THE published the results of the 2025 THE World University Rankings, placing the University of Cyprus among the top 401-500 universities globally. The University of Cyprus also remains the top Cypriot university, showing an improvement from its position last year in the 501-600 range.
It is noted that the inclusion of the University of Cyprus, the country's first public university, in this ranking, once again demonstrates its ability to compete internationally in the fields of teaching and research.
“In the 35 years since its founding, the University of Cyprus has distinguished itself and is included in all prestigious international rankings. While being ranked is not an end in itself for the institution, it serves as a benchmark for comparison with universities worldwide,” the announcement states.
It is also added that the ranking reflects the potential of the University of Cyprus for further improvement, which can be achieved through the modernization of its legislation (such as offering undergraduate programs in foreign languages, the establishment and operation of university clinics, and more).
Moreover, it is explained that the THE World University Rankings evaluate thousands of universities, with this year's edition featuring the top 2,092 of them.
It is emphasized that THE is one of the most important providers of information on higher education, and this specific ranking is considered one of the most reliable assessments of university institutions.
The methodology used allows for an evaluation across the full range of a university's mission, taking into account teaching, research, and impact, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
