Cyprus Deposits and Loans Slow Down in May 2025

Total deposits rose slightly to €56.1 billion in May, while total loans reached €25.7 billion, showing weaker momentum than in April.

Total deposits in Cyprus recorded a net increase of €20.8 million in May 2025, compared to a net increase of €492.9 million in April 2025, according to a statement issued today by the Central Bank of Cyprus. It also noted that total loans in May 2025 recorded a net increase of €116.8 million, compared to a net increase of €169.1 million in April 2025.

As stated, the annual growth rate of total deposits reached 5.8%, compared to 7.6% in April 2025, while the total outstanding amount of deposits in May 2025 reached €56.1 billion.

It was further noted that deposits from Cyprus residents increased by €24.6 million. Specifically, deposits from households and non-financial corporations rose by €164.5 million and €138.0 million respectively, while deposits from other domestic sectors recorded a total decrease of €278.0 million.

It was also reported that total loans in May 2025 registered a net increase of €116.8 million, compared to a net increase of €169.1 million in April 2025. The annual growth rate of total loans reached 5.1%, compared to 4.9% in April 2025, while the outstanding amount of total loans in May 2025 reached €25.7 billion.

Finally, it was noted that loans to Cyprus residents increased by €2.6 million. More specifically, loans to households increased by €15.1 million, while loans to non-financial corporations decreased by €6.2 million. Loans to other domestic sectors showed a total decrease of €6.3 million.
