Reimbursements to farmers and financial aid to viticulturists, approved by the Government and CAPO

On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved a €2.9 million agricultural reimbursements package to 1,046 beneficiaries, following a proposal introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

According to an after meeting statement by the Minister, Petros Xenophon, the approved compensation package relates to the severe damages caused by adverse weather conditions during the 2021-22 growing season. Crops of deciduous trees, seasonal and other woody crops were affected, resulting in a considerable number of negatively affected farmers.

Therefore, it was viewed as appropriate and necessary to provide support to the affected farmers through the revised National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Payment to all beneficiaries is expected within the current month.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment aims to provide immediate relief to affected farmers by reporting and recording the damages caused by adverse weather conditions.

CAPO provides financial aid to viticulturists

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization announced that payments totaling €279,945 were carried out to the beneficiaries of Measure No. 22: "Emergency Support for Farmers to Address the Impact of the Russian Invasion in Ukraine, Action G: Viticulture”.

According to the press release, the aim of the Measure was to provide financial assistance to viticulturists for their vineyards, who used specific vine varieties, “Xynisteri” and “Ntopio Mavro” in particular; these varieties would not be available on the market and would remain unharvested until their complete physical destruction without the given assistance.

Beneficiaries of the financial aid were viticulturists, natural and legal persons, who are registered in the Viticultural Register and hold vineyards and use specific vine varieties, such as “Xynisteri' and/or “Ntopio Mavro”.

The EU contributes to the aid scheme by funding 48% of its total cost, while Cyprus covers the rest of it. яндекс
