365 Sunrises in Kapparis: Photography Exhibition by Kyriakos Kyriakou in Paralimni
The Photography Exhibition by Kyriakos Kyriakou in Kapparis.
Three hundred and sixty-five dawns, one landscape and a persistent gaze on the first light of day. The exhibition “365 Sunrises in Kapparis” by Kyriakos Kyriakou transforms the moment of sunrise into an act of memory, reflection and hope.
The photography exhibition by Kyriakos Kyriakou titled “365 Sunrises in Kapparis” opens on Friday, February 28, at the events hall of the Paralimni–Deryneia Municipality, with the kind support of the Municipality.
This new body of work is the distillation of a long personal journey: 365 sunrises, 365 mornings in Kapparis, where the first line of light meets the sea and the silence of dawn turns into image. Kyriakos Kyriakou, a devoted early-morning swimmer in the area, has dedicated recent years to capturing that minimal yet decisive moment when the rosy-fingered dawn spreads across the horizon and the sun rises from the water, bathing the shoreline in color.
The uniqueness of the landscape is not only natural. Kapparis lies next to the barbed wire along the coastline of occupied Famagusta, a boundary that daily reminds visitors of Cyprus’ divided reality. Within this setting, each sunrise acquires an almost symbolic dimension: light transcends borders, nature ignores checkpoints and beauty persists.
No sunrise is ever the same as the one before. Shades of pink, orange and deep gold shift subtly, clouds move, the sea alternates between calm and restless. Kyriakos Kyriakou’s photographic lens functions as a tool of observation as well as contemplation: it captures the uniqueness of each moment, knowing it will never be repeated in the same tone.
The exhibition “365 Sunrises in Kapparis” is an act of perseverance, an exercise in discipline and at the same time a poetic testimony to the power of light. Through his images, the artist invites the public to pause, to slow down and to remember that even in the most fragile geographies, each new day is born with the promise of renewal.
