Blood Supplies Running Low in Cyprus as Authorities Sound the Alarm
Ministry of Health urges urgent public response amid rising demand for blood and blood products.
Blood and blood product reserves in Cyprus are currently at reduced levels, with the Ministry of Health sounding the alarm as demand continues to remain high.
In an announcement issued today, the Ministry of Health states that the reduced turnout of blood donors, combined with the increased needs of patients for transfusions and blood products (red blood cells, plasma, platelets), within the framework of medical treatments, surgical procedures, and the management of emergency cases, “is affecting the adequacy of blood supplies.”
The Ministry calls on citizens who meet the eligibility criteria and are in good health to visit blood donation centers across Cyprus, in order to strengthen available reserves.
“The contribution of blood donors is of vital importance for meeting existing needs,” the Ministry emphasizes.
