Rare Total Lunar Eclipse Over Cyprus: Don’t Miss the “Blood Moon” on September 25
House of Science invites the public to an unforgettable astronomy night in Limassol.
On Saturday, September 25, the skies of Cyprus will offer a breathtaking spectacle: a rare total lunar eclipse, fully visible from the island for the first time since 2018.
The partial phase begins at 19:27, while the total eclipse will last from 20:30 to 21:52, as the Moon slips into Earth’s shadow, creating the striking “Blood Moon.”
The House of Science invites the public to the semicircular pier of Limassol’s seafront (opposite Café Nero) for a special night of skywatching. Telescopes will be available for observing both the Moon and the planet Saturn with its iconic rings.
Visitors can also join knowledge games and interactive activities centered around the Moon, with educational material available for both children and adults.
The evening will feature lectures by leading scientists and researchers:
-
Prof. Haris Charalambous (Frederick University): Space Weather
-
Dr. Haris Varnava (European University Cyprus): My Research on Galaxies
-
Dr. Tatiana Pavlidou (Cyprus University of Technology): My Research on Star Clusters
-
Marios Photiou (Avanti Communications): The Sky in the Satellite Era
-
Vasilis Vasileiou (House of Science): Explanation of the Lunar Eclipse Phenomenon
-
