Cyprus Hit by Second 5.3-Magnitude Earthquake, Aftershocks Continue
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reports a new 5.3 quake near Paphos, felt across the island.
A new seismic tremor struck parts of Cyprus on Wednesday, once again strongly felt across several areas of the island. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the new earthquake measured 5.3 on the Richter scale, the same magnitude as the earlier morning quake that had already rattled the country.
The Department of Geological Survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment earlier confirmed that the initial quake occurred at 11:31 a.m. local time, with its epicentre near Agia Marina Kelokedaron, about 20 kilometres northeast of Paphos, and a focal depth of 15 kilometres.
An aftershock sequence remains in progress, and authorities continue to monitor seismic activity closely, urging residents to stay alert and follow official safety instructions.
The tremors were felt strongly across Cyprus, particularly in Paphos, Limassol, and Nicosia, and were also noticed along the eastern Mediterranean coastline.
