Cyprus’ Sheftalia Just Schooled the World’s Sausages
TasteAtlas crowns sheftalia No. 2 globally, turning Cyprus into a sausage superstar.
Sausage is not just a deli product—it is the foundation of some of the world’s most beloved traditional dishes. The international gastronomy platform TasteAtlas has released its list of the 10 best sausage dishes for September 2025, showcasing flavors that bring cultures and tables together.
At the top of the list stands the Greek spetsofai from Thessaly, earning a score of 4.4/5. This rustic dish combines sausage with peppers in a rich tomato sauce, perfectly representing the Mediterranean culinary tradition.
Right after, in second place, we find the iconic Cypriot sheftalia (4.3/5). Made from minced meat wrapped in caul fat and grilled over charcoal, sheftalia is a staple of the Cypriot taverna. Today, it is internationally recognized as one of the finest expressions of a sausage-based dish.
