Door Malfunction: What Tesla Drivers in Cyprus Should Know

Authorities advise owners to learn the manual door release and confirm if their vehicle is affected by a recall.

The Department of Road Transport issues recommendations following recent announcements and international press reports concerning TESLA vehicles and a problem with door handles.

In a statement, it notes that the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a preliminary investigation into certain Tesla vehicles regarding a malfunction of electrically controlled door handles under specific low-voltage conditions. Initially, the investigation concerns 2021 Model Y vehicles.

It is noted that these vehicles are equipped with internal manual handles to open the doors in the event of low electrical voltage. Therefore, owners are urged to consult the vehicle’s user manual to review the instructions for using these handles and to familiarize themselves with their exact location and operation.

Owners of these vehicles in Cyprus are asked to immediately check the vehicle’s manual for the procedure to open the doors manually and to inform passengers/users about the correct use.

They are also asked to check whether the vehicle is subject to a recall via Tesla’s official page (Recall Information) and/or announcements on the EU Safety Gate.

In the event of a door handle malfunction, owners are advised not to use the vehicle until it has been inspected and repaired.
