Eins Gallery Presents Leontios Toumpouris' "Porous Defence Practices"

Eins Gallery is pleased to present Leontios Toumpouris’ solo exhibition Porous defence practices for Vima Art Fair. 

Expanding on his ongoing inquiry into the intersections between matter, corporeality and land, Toumpouris introduces a new series of sculptural wall pieces. These works refer to embodied knowledge, autobiography and the landscape, unfolding through multiple layers of representational possibility, manifested in objects, images and gestures.

Leontios Toumpouris

Leontios Toumpouris (b. 1982, Nicosia) is an artist and educator based in Nicosia, Cyprus. He graduated from the Painting Department of Athens School of Fine Arts in 2009 and earned an MLitt in Sculpture from Glasgow School of Art in 2016.

Drawing from organic structures, traditions of representation, autobiography and discursive practices, Toumpouris invents observational strategies to make work that refers to correlations between matter, body and land. Narratological considerations are manifested as material connotations, reappearances, verbal responses, and negotiation of various modes of development and deep time. His work is configured in bodies and series spanning sculpture, site-responsive installations, text, sound, moving image, drawing and performative gestures.
