EuroBasket: All Set for the Group C Premiere in Limassol – A Historic Day for Cyprus
Cyprus makes its debut in the prestigious basketball tournament.
The countdown is over. Today, Thursday, August 28, at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center in Limassol, the opening game of Group C in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 will take place. It is a historic moment for Cyprus, which officially becomes the smallest host country in the 90-year history of the tournament.
Cyprus is one of four hosts of this year’s championship. The other groups will be staged in Riga (Latvia)—which will also host the knockout stages up until September 14 when the new European champion will be crowned—Tampere (Finland), and Katowice (Poland).
For Cyprus, the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 carries even greater significance, as it marks the first-ever participation of the national basketball team in such a major international competition. Sharing Group C with Cyprus are Greece (as co-host partner), defending champions Spain, Italy, Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The action begins at 15:00 with Georgia facing Spain. At 18:15, Cyprus will make its historic EuroBasket debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The group’s opening day will conclude with Italy taking on Greece at 21:00.
Group C games will run until September 4, with a total of 15 matches being played. From these, the top four teams will advance to the Round of 16 of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
All Group C games will be broadcast live on Novasports, while matches involving the national teams of Cyprus and Greece will also air on Alpha Cyprus. Tickets for all 15 games, scheduled from August 28 to September 4 at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center, are available online at more.com.
