Who Are the Green Leaders Recognized at the Pan-Cypriot Environmental Awards?

Municipalities and Organizations Awarded for Sustainability Efforts

Cyprus continues to emphasize environmental protection and sustainability, with three major recipients set to receive prestigious awards for their eco-friendly initiatives. The Municipality of Larnaca, the Limassol District Local Government Organization, and the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics (CING) have distinguished themselves through efforts in biodiversity conservation, water management, and environmental responsibility.

Larnaca Municipality Named Green City of Cyprus

The Municipality of Larnaca has been awarded the title of "Green City of Cyprus" as part of the Pan-Cypriot Green Cities and Green Communities Awards 2024. This recognition comes for its greener beaches project in Voroklini, honored in the “Green Areas – Urban Biodiversity” category.

By enhancing its environmental footprint and protecting biodiversity, Larnaca has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability. The municipality is now part of the Network of Green Cities & Communities of Cyprus, established by the Cyprus Center for Environmental Research and Education. Officials emphasize that they remain dedicated to promoting sustainable urban development for the benefit of both residents and the natural environment.

Limassol Government Organization Awarded Silver Environmental Medal

The Limassol District Local Government Organization has been honored with the "Silver Environmental Medal for Environmental Policies and Actions" at the Pan-Cypriot Environmental Awards for Organizations and Enterprises 2024. This recognition highlights the board’s proactive role in environmental conservation, particularly through:

  • Sewerage infrastructure and flood protection projects

  • Innovative water supply systems utilizing eco-friendly technology

  • Water-saving programs, including recycled water production

  • Implementation of renewable energy sources and recycling initiatives.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus will present the award at an upcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace. Limassol Water Board President Yiannis Tsoulоftas reaffirmed the organization's commitment to sustainable development, serving both the community and the environment.

CING Receives Silver Medal for Environmental Excellence

The Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics (CING) will also be awarded the "Silver Environmental Medal for Environmental Policies and Actions" during the Pan-Cypriot Environmental Awards. This marks the third consecutive year CING has received this distinction, reinforcing its continued dedication to sustainability.

Professor Leonidas Phylactou, CING’s General Executive and Medical Director, emphasized that environmental responsibility is integral to the institute’s mission. As a healthcare-focused organization, CING ensures that its operations align with best environmental practices, maintaining high sustainability standards across its activities.
