The First-Ever Open House Nicosia Invited the Public Behind the Doors of 39 Iconic Buildings

A Landmark Debut for the Capital’s Architecture

Architecture took center stage this weekend, as the first-ever Open House Nicosia invited the public behind the doors of 39 iconic buildings. From the city center to Kato Deftera, more than 5,000 visitors explored the capital’s hidden gems through free volunteer-led tours. The successful debut also featured curated city walks, attracting over 100 enthusiasts eager to rediscover Nicosia’s urban landscape.

Featured Landmarks

The program featured a diverse range of landmarks, such as:

  • Public & Cultural: Nicosia Town Hall, Hadjigeorgakis Cornesios Mansion, the Cyprus Museum, and the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOC) building.
  • Modern & Educational: The University of Cyprus Library and Engineering School, The Landmark Nicosia, 360 (Cyprus's tallest building), and the Olympic House.
  • Historical & Private: Hamam Omerye, the Severios Library, and private residences like "0410" and "Case Oblivio."

Each site offered a unique perspective on how Nicosia lives, works, and evolves.

Organization and Support

The initiative was organized by the NGO "Voices of the City – Open House Nicosia" and held under the auspices of the Nicosia Municipality. It was supported by the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), the Cyprus Architects Association (SAK), and Visit Nicosia.

Special thanks were extended to the Mayor of Nicosia, Mr. Charalambos Prountzos, who opened the festival, as well as the sponsors, institutional bodies, and the volunteers who were described as the "soul" of the festival.
