Limassol Celebrates World Music Day with Open-Air Festival Across the City
Fête de la Musique Returns on June 21 with Over 80 Musicians and Free Concerts in Three Historic Locations
World Music Day returns to Limassol this year with a vibrant and diverse open-air festival, promising to fill the city with sound, rhythm, and cultural expression. On Saturday, June 21, three outdoor stages—Molos Pier, Old Port Square, and Castle Square—will host eight music groups and more than 80 musicians, offering a journey through genres and traditions from Cyprus and beyond.
Organised by Alliance Française of Limassol in collaboration with the Municipality of Limassol, the Fête de la Musique has been a local cultural tradition since 1987 and is free to the public. This year’s programme includes a rich mix of musical styles, from the psychedelic folk of Buzz Ayaz and the jazz tones of the Ermis Michail Quartet to the French chanson of Avant Tout. Highlights include the polyphonic choir Lalía and Batukinio’s percussion ensemble, which will lead a musical procession from the Old Port to the Castle.
The festival begins at 6 p.m. at Molos Pier with a traditional music choir led by Konstantina Xenofontos and a performance by Helim Duet. At 7 p.m., the stage shifts to Old Port Square for Chunky Funky and the Ermis Michail Quartet, and at 9 p.m., festivities culminate at Castle Square with a live radio broadcast by Kanali 6.
The evening also features Dimitris Mesimeris presenting his latest project blending contemporary and art-rock elements, while host Giorgos Kyriakou guides the audience throughout the celebration.
The event is supported by the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the European Commission in Cyprus, the Cyprus Ports Authority, and TotalEnergies, with Kanali 6 as media sponsor.
Once again, music becomes the language that unites us all.
