Meet the Viral Halloumi Monument Taking Over the Internet

Inspired by Xylofagou’s famous spud, Pissouri’s giant halloumi sculpture is the island’s latest social media sensation.

Move over, Xylofagou Potato — there’s a new food monument taking the internet by storm.

The village of Pissouri has unveiled what’s already being dubbed “The Halloumi Monument”, a sculpture celebrating Cyprus’ most iconic cheese.

Located just outside the Pissouri Multipurpose Cultural Centre, where the “House of Halloumi” is also based, the new monument has quickly become a social media sensation. Photos of the oversized halloumi — complete with fork, knife, and vegetables — were first shared by the popular Facebook page MyCyprus, sparking hundreds of reactions and shares.

The installation is seen as a playful nod to Cyprus’ culinary identity, following in the viral footsteps of the famous “Potato Monument” in Xylofagou, which drew international attention for its quirky design.

The monument, according to local sources, is a donation by a former community leader of Pissouri.
