A 1909 Pharmacy Reborn: The Old Nicosia Gem Now Serving Cocktails
Historic décor, premium drinks, and vintage charm in the heart of the old town.
One of the oldest pharmacies in the capital, Hadjipavlou Pharmacy, has recently reopened its doors in the heart of the old town—situated between the square, the church, and the historic stone arches that define the character of the neighbourhood. Hadjipavlou Pharmacy first opened in 1909 and later operated as an optical store. In recent years, however, it has taken on a new identity as a distinctive café-bar.
The location alone inspires both passers-by and nightlife lovers—and even those who simply enjoy a quiet outing—to step inside. The space features objects, furniture, accessories, and even antiques that “reveal” the building’s previous life. Vintage eyeglasses, an old optometry device, medical instruments, and even old pharmaceutical prescriptions, bottles, and medicines displayed in elegant showcases immediately capture visitors’ attention upon entry. The décor gives the venue a unique character, harmoniously blending elements of the past with the present. A sleek bar and premium spirits draw the eye, while the menu offers a wide selection of drinks, hot beverages, and small bites to round off your visit.
You’ll find cocktails, wines, beers, and spirits such as zivania, ouzo, and tsipouro, as well as coffees, homemade lemonades, fresh orange juice, Cypriot tea, and smoothies. The accompanying food options include platters with cured meats, cheeses, fruits, homemade desserts, and sandwiches.
