Voluntary Cleanup of 2,700 kg of Waste at Limassol New Port

More than 2,700 kg of waste were removed from the area of Limassol’s New Port following a voluntary cleanup organized by Philip Morris Cyprus on Wednesday, September 17. Specifically, over 30 employees, volunteers, and partners of Philip Morris Cyprus, with the support of NGO Save Your Hood Cyprus and ATED Synergia, joined forces to protect the natural environment, highlighting the importance of safeguarding and showcasing Cyprus’ invaluable coastal heritage.

Volunteers collected large amounts of cigarette butts, as well as other plastics, bulky objects, aluminum, and glass from the coastal area, actively contributing to the preservation of the environment and marine ecosystems. Waste pollution, which has been increasing at alarming rates in recent years, poses a threat to Cyprus’ beautiful beaches, which are a vital part of its ecosystem and a key pillar of its tourism identity.

“By working with a focus on people and the value of volunteerism, Philip Morris Cyprus actively supports the global goals for sustainable development. Through its commitment to social and environmental responsibility, it contributes to building a sustainable society by investing in its people as a driving force for protecting Cyprus’ natural wealth,” stated Mr. Grigoris Kamberis, Managing Director of Philip Morris Cyprus & Malta.
