“Spyros Kyprianou” Ready to Host the FIBA EuroBasket 2025
The works, initiated last summer, are now in their final stages.
Ready to host the biggest sporting event ever organized in Cyprus — the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 — the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Center in Limassol is nearing the completion of its extensive renovations. The works, initiated last summer, are now in their final stages and being handed over by the construction company A&A Apostolides to the Department of Public Works.
According to an official statement from the Cypriot Organizing Committee for EuroBasket, the newly renovated indoor arena boasts a capacity of 8,000 spectators, making it the largest indoor venue in the country.
The arena now features the largest LED screens ever installed indoors in Cyprus, adding to the visual impact of the event. Equally impressive are the four new locker rooms, designed to accommodate the national basketball teams of Greece, Spain, Italy, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and of course, Cyprus.
Additional upgrades include new retractable electronic stands, mobile equipment such as TVs, benches, tables, and chairs, as well as temporary seating structures to meet EuroBasket standards. A new parquet floor has also been installed, along with new basketball hoops and other essential sports equipment. During the championship period, FIBA will install a specialized wooden court branded specifically for the event.
Apart from visible improvements, substantial work has also been done on lighting, acoustics, electrical systems, ventilation, and technology infrastructure, both inside and outside the arena. Exterior works included upgrades to parking areas and access points, and renovations were made to ensure compliance with safety and accessibility regulations, including the installation of a mandatory CCTV surveillance system.
The only remaining elements before the arena's final configuration for EuroBasket 2025 — scheduled from August 28 to September 4 — are the event branding elements (banners, signage, etc.), which will be added in August following a test event early in the month.
