“Threads of Friendship” Celebrates Romanian and Cypriot Cultural Heritage at The Landmark Nicosia

The Evening Brought Together Tradition, Contemporary Fashion, Cultural Heritage And Artistic Collaboration.

The Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Cyprus, in partnership with Flori de Ie and Cypriot artist and textile designer Michalis Pantelidis, presented the cultural fashion showcase “Threads of Friendship” at The Landmark Hotel Nicosia, celebrating the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse, women’s entrepreneurship, and the cultural bonds between Romania and Cyprus.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Ms. Marina Hadjimanolis, together with representatives of the Government of Cyprus, the diplomatic corps, the business and academic communities, and members of the Romanian and Cypriot communities.

Official speeches were delivered by representatives of the Government of Cyprus and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including Mr. Philokypros Roussounides, Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighting the importance of cultural diplomacy, women’s entrepreneurship, and the strong ties between Romania and Cyprus.

The evening brought together tradition, contemporary fashion, cultural heritage and artistic collaboration. A special presentation of authentic Romanian heritage costumes from the Flori de Ie collection, created by Christina Chiriac, was presented on the runway by Romanian and Cypriot women entrepreneurs, highlighting the role of women in cultural dialogue, entrepreneurship and international cooperation.

A key moment of the evening was the official launch of “Embroidered Dialogues”, the Romanian–Cypriot Friendship Scarf created by Michalis Pantelidis in collaboration with Flori de Ie and the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Cyprus.

Inspired by the textile traditions of both Romania and Cyprus, the scarf brings together details from traditional Romanian blouses and Cypriot handcrafted embroidery. Through photography and digital collage, Michalis Pantelidis transformed these cultural references into a contemporary wearable artwork that celebrates heritage, memory and identity.

The design includes symbols connected to protection, spirituality, prosperity and belonging, creating a visual dialogue between Romania and Cyprus through textiles, embroidery and art.

During his remarks, Michalis Pantelidis expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Lavinia Ochea for her vision, trust and dedication in bringing this project to life, and for creating a meaningful platform where Romanian and Cypriot culture could meet through textiles, heritage and art.

For Michalis Pantelidis, the project continues his artistic practice of transforming cultural memory, photography and textile heritage into contemporary wearable artworks. His work explores how traditional symbols and handcrafted details can be reimagined through a modern visual language, creating pieces that carry stories of place, identity and emotion.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Cyprus, in partnership with Flori de Ie and Michalis Pantelidis, with the support of the Presidential Administration of Romania, the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs in Romania, and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“Threads of Friendship” offered a meaningful celebration of cultural heritage, women’s creativity and the strong friendship between Romania and Cyprus, showing how traditional craftsmanship can continue to inspire contemporary artistic expression.
