Traffic Measures in Nicosia for Cyprus EU Presidency Opening - What to Know
Parking bans, road closures and a long-term drone prohibition announced by authorities.
Various traffic arrangements and restrictions will come into force today, implemented by the Police, due to the opening ceremony of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The ceremony will take place this afternoon at 18:30, at the building of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOC) in Nicosia.
Specifically, as previously announced by the Police, parking will be prohibited on the following roads: Demostheni Severi Street, Grigori Afxentiou Street, Michail Karaoli Street, Lord Byron Street, Kosti Palama Street, Omirou Street, Anastasiou Leventi Street, Evagorou Street, Diagorou Street, and Vasileos Pavlou Street.
Additionally, the Municipality of Nicosia will not permit the parking of private vehicles throughout the day in the two underground parking areas of the old G.S.P. stadium.
From 14:30 onwards, road closures will be implemented in the wider area surrounding the THOC building, and access to the area will be fully controlled.
The Police urge drivers to comply with the road closures and traffic measures that will be enforced, as well as with the instructions of police officers on duty.
Finally, by Decree of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works (K.D.P. 03/2026), the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) is strictly prohibited in the wider area of the THOC and the Conference Centre. The relevant coordinates of the restricted zone are specified in the Decree. It is clarified that the drone ban will remain in force for the entire duration of the Cypriot Presidency.
