Cyprus Airways is undertaking a fleet upgrade by introducing the state-of-the-art A220 aircraft. The company announced this significant development during a joint conference with Airbus at the prestigious Paris Air Show 2023, which took place on June 20th at the Airbus Chalet.

25% less fuel consumption

The A220-300 boasts remarkable features, including unmatched fuel efficiency, achieving a 25% reduction in fuel consumption per seat. Its sleek design incorporates the latest technologies and robust systems. Furthermore, the aircraft's market potential for the 100-150 seat category is exceptionally strong. Advanced elements, such as the PW1500G Geared Turbofan engine and aerodynamic optimization, contribute to a 50% reduction in noise footprint and an enhanced single-aisle experience. Passengers can enjoy wider seats, larger windows, and increased overhead baggage space.

Notably, Cyprus Airways' commitment to sustainability is exemplified by the A220-300's significant environmental advantages. With a 25% decrease in fuel burn and CO2 emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft, as well as approximately 50% fewer NOx emissions, the A220-300 plays a pivotal role in realizing a greener and more sustainable aviation industry.

As previously reported, Cyprus Airways achieved impressive results in May, transporting a total of 66,998 passengers. Of these, 48,929 passengers were on scheduled flights, and an additional 18,069 passengers flew on ACMI and chartered flights. This represents a significant fourfold increase compared to May 2022, demonstrating the trust and preference travelers have placed in the airline. Cyprus Airways operated 370 scheduled flights in May, surpassing the previous year's figure of 214 flights. The company also improved its load factor by 14 percentage points, emphasizing its commitment to operational efficiency and exceptional travel experiences. Compared to pre-pandemic levels in May 2019, the airline achieved remarkable progress, transporting 55% more passengers and operating 38% more flights.

As Cyprus Airways further prepares for the summer season, it is launching service to 18 destinations, expanding its network. CEO Paul Sies attributes the Airways’ success to strategic route additions, increased frequencies, and improved connectivity, leading to their position as the third-largest carrier in Cyprus.
