The relocation of government servers, set to be finalized in October, is poised to fortify Cyprus' cybersecurity measures, as announced by Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy, Philippou Hatzizacharia, in an exclusive interview with the Cyprus News Agency.

Hatzizacharia confidently assured that the project is on track, following a temporary setback caused by a water leak in the existing space at the Ministry of Finance a few months ago. Prompt actions were taken by collaborating companies, who promptly supplied temporary routers, servers, and other equipment. At the same time, direct orders were placed to procure replacements for the affected systems.

"We have already set schedules for the replacement of problematic equipment, and as soon as the new systems arrive, the relocation process to the new space will be expedited," Hatzizacharia stated.

One company, in particular, has provided reassurance, promising delivery of the necessary new system within two weeks. This development is expected to facilitate the full relocation of government servers in October.

Moreover, the Deputy Minister emphasized the ongoing positive collaboration with the government's partner companies and Cyta, a prominent telecommunication provider in Cyprus. The cooperative efforts focus on shaping the new space, which has already been prepared for the seamless transition.

Meanwhile, in another significant move towards strengthening cybersecurity in Cyprus, the Digital Security Authority and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry have solidified their alliance by signing a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation. This strategic partnership aims to reinforce existing ties and explore further prospects in the realm of information technology and cybersecurity.

The collaboration framework is comprehensive, encompassing jointly organized educational initiatives, seminars, and conferences. Moreover, the two entities will participate collaboratively in European research projects, strategically aimed at heightening cybersecurity awareness and cultivating a robust cybersecurity culture within Cypriot enterprises. Special emphasis is being placed on the vital role played by small and medium-sized businesses, which constitute the backbone of Cyprus' economy.
