Cypriot Youth to Compete in European Skills Competition in Gdańsk

With a Mission to Spotlight Cyprus’ Advancements in Human Resource Development

Six young Cypriots will represent their nation at the "Euroskills 2023," a prestigious European skills competition set to unfold in Gdańsk, Poland, from September 6 to 8. These talented individuals emerged as winners in their respective categories at the 7th annual "SkillsCyprus 2023" contest, which was held in Nicosia this past March.

Headed by Yiannis Panagiotou, the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, the delegation will also include Maria Nikolaou, the Deputy Director of the Productivity Center, along with industry experts. Their mission: to spotlight Cyprus' advancements in human resource development and secure a winning position in a variety of technical disciplines.

The team comprises young men and women between the ages of 16 and 23, who excelled in vocational competitions under the supervision of the Productivity Center. The representatives and their fields of expertise are as follows:

  • Drywall Installation: Petroula Chira, a student at Avgorou Technical School.

  • Welding: Loizos Kyriakou, a recent graduate of Nicosia Technical School.

  • Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning: Konstantinos Venizelou, a student at MIEEK.

  • Culinary Arts: Andreas Sotiriou, a chef at the Four Seasons Hotel.

  • Waitstaff Services: Georgios Christodoulou, a student at TEPAK.

  • Beauty and Skincare: Elena Adamou, a student at Intercollege.

These Cypriot contenders will face stiff competition, going head-to-head with 500 participants from 30 different European countries. Their aim is not just participation, but to make a significant impact by securing top ranks in their respective categories.

For the first time ever, the competition, adopting the slogan "United by Skills," will be live-streamed on the Euroskills Gdansk 2023 Facebook page, allowing fans and supporters to cheer for their local talents from afar.
