Nicosia to Host 17th Annual European Researchers' Night with a Focus on Innovation and Global Challenges

“Mission: CONNECT”

This year's European Researchers' Night, a time-honored celebration of science and innovation, is set to make its return for the 17th time on September 29. Hosted at the State Fair venue in Nicosia, the event promises a day full of interactive experiences, from live scientific experiments to intellectual competitions.

Organized by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), the event will run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. This year’s theme, “Mission: CONNECT,” aims to bridge the gap between the scientific community and the general public. In collaboration with leading organizations in research, innovation, and business across Cyprus, the event offers something for everyone.

Visitors can explore over 60 booths, brimming with activities led by hundreds of researchers. Cutting-edge technology, multimedia, and simulations will be featured in various interactive experiments, allowing participants to get hands-on experience with specialized scientific equipment. A plethora of games, contests, and other entertaining activities are designed to engage audiences of all ages.

As a special treat, the evening will cap off with an "Improvisation Comedy Show in Science," featuring comedians Giorgos Angelopoulos, Yannis Sarakatsanis, and Soso Chatzimanoli, from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Focusing on "European Missions," this year’s event will address global challenges such as climate change adaptation, cancer research, marine conservation, and sustainable urban development. It's part of a Europe-wide initiative, with more than 350 cities participating, aimed at showcasing the real-world impact of scientific research.

Funding for the Researchers’ Night comes from the European Union's Horizon Europe Program for Research and Innovation, under the project CONNECT with the number 101060913.
