Nicosia Hosts First Event of the Immersive Tech Odyssey Series

XR in Education and Cultural Heritage

Today in Nicosia, the inaugural event of the "Immersive Tech Odyssey" series is being held, focusing on "XR in Education and Cultural Heritage". Organized by the HRDays Foundation in collaboration with the CYENS Center of Excellence and supported by Iconem, the event promises to be a significant milestone.

This gathering serves as a satellite event for the much-anticipated "Immersive Tech Week (ITW)", scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from November 28th to December 1st, 2023.

Throughout the day, discussions will revolve around how emerging XR (Extended Reality) technologies are revolutionizing the fields of learning, education, and cultural heritage preservation. Emphasis will be given to the challenges and opportunities that XR tools present, and their transformative potential in shaping the future of European education and digital cultural heritage.

The event attracts a diverse group of attendees, including educators, professionals in cultural heritage, policy makers, and the general public. In the afternoon, group discussions are slated to delve deeper into the vision surrounding these topical issues.

Among the distinguished participants are Professor Miriam Reiner, who heads the Virtual Reality and Cognition Lab at Technion; Professor Georgios Artopoulos, Associate Professor at the Cyprus Institute; Isabel Crespo from the Europeana Operational Development Program; and Etienne Tellier, the COO of Iconem. Representing the CYENS Center of Excellence is Professor Fotis Liarokapis, the leader of the Extended Experiences research group.
