Celestyal Cruises Introduces Its Largest Ship, Celestyal Journey, in Limassol

The Ship Underwent Major Upgrades, Slashed CO2 Emissions by 85%

Celestyal Cruises proudly unveiled its largest fleet addition, the Celestyal Journey, on Wednesday at the Port of Limassol. This impressive vessel is a key part of the company's schedule, which began last September. Aside from January and February, the itineraries are set to continue until June 2024.

In a recorded message, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, congratulated the company on acquiring the new state-of-the-art cruise ship. He lauded it as a valuable asset, reflecting the European Union fleet's standards and marking a significant investment.

Koumis further emphasized the cruise sector's crucial role in Cyprus, highlighting the country's unique geographical position and cultural richness as ideal for attracting cruise tourism.

The company’s economic impact, especially on the local economy, is substantial. The Deputy Minister noted how Celestyal Cruises contributes to enriching the tourism product and services, even during off-peak months. This involvement extends the tourism season, providing sustained benefits to the industry.

Stelios Cheimonas, the General Director of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, expressed that bolstering the cruise sector is a priority. He asserted the Ministry's support for initiatives that strengthen the sector and aid in developing the tourism areas and cities of Cyprus.

Cheimonas praised the Executive Chairman of Louis Group, Kostakis Loizou, and the CEO of Celestyal Cruises, Chris Theophilides, for including the Limassol Port in their cruise itinerary. Limassol's Mayor, Nikos Nicolaides, also expressed gratitude for the company's trust in the city. He reminded that another company vessel, Celestyal Olympia, used Limassol Port as its base in 2021.

Theophilides shared details about the Celestyal Journey, revealing that the ship underwent renovations and upgrades worth €26 million. These improvements notably reduced the ship's carbon dioxide emissions by 85%. He explained that the medium-sized vessel aligns perfectly with the destinations the company targets, enhancing the level of services offered.

Celestyal Journey boasts 630 cabins, seven restaurants, and eight bars. It features a deck dedicated to wellness, two swimming pools, conference spaces, an amphitheater, a casino, and various entertainment venues. With a capacity to host 1260 guests, it ensures a memorable experience.

Following its inaugural "Idyllic Aegean" cruise in September, Celestyal Journey continues in October with the "Footsteps of Apostle Paul" itinerary. This cruise includes visits to Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Istanbul, Dikili, Kusadasi, and Patmos. Subsequently, the ship will embark on a seven-night "Three Continents" cruise, calling at ports in Greece, Egypt, Cyprus, and Turkey, promising an enriching journey for its passengers.
